「愛情鎖」源自於義大利知名作家Federico Moccia於2006年發表的作品《Ho voglia di te》(譯:想和你在一起)內的情節,一對情侶將名字刻在鎖上,並把鎖掛在北羅馬米爾維奧橋的街燈,然後再把鑰匙丟入泰伯河中。2008年起在法國,不知由誰起頭,開始在藝術橋上兩側掛上刻有雙方姓名的鎖頭,並將鑰匙丟入河中,祈禱擁有彼此始至不渝的愛,後來變成世界各國來到此處的遊客必做的事,藝術橋也漸漸擁有「愛情橋」的別稱。(還有一說如果想要隱藏心中的秘密,在橋上掛上一只鎖並把鑰匙丟入河中,秘密也會隨之沉入河底。)
